Mercedes F1 Reserve Vesti to Drive for Mahindra in Formula E Rookie Test
Mahindra Racing has announced that Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 reserve driver Frederik Vesti will take part in the upcoming Berlin Formula E Rookie Test. With the excitement for the championship heating up, it will be interesting to see what he can do. Here is the latest news.
Vesti to Drive for Mahindra in Formula E
The 2023 Formula 2 vice-champion will be behind the wheel of the Mahindra M10Electro for a full day of testing during the official FIA Formula E Rookie Test. The test will take place on Monday 13 May after Formula E’s doubleheader in Germany.
He is set to line up alongside one of Formula 2’s current leading lights and one of Mahindra’s current reserve drivers, Kush Maini.
Speaking on the test, Vesti said: “It’s a great chance to test, and to prove myself as a rookie in a new championship. It’s [also] an amazing opportunity to learn, which is only going to help me grow as a driver. It’s what motivates me, I’m really looking forward to trying the GEN3 Formula E car, which I understand is quite a challenge.”
Single Seater Talent
The Dane is among the standout talents to emerge from the FIA’s single-seater pathway in recent times, amassing an impressive 37 race victories and 81 podium finishes across stints in Formula 4, Formula Regional, FIA Formula 3 and FIA Formula 2. In 2023, he narrowly missed out on the F2 title, scoring an impressive six victories and 10 podiums, in the process.
In preparation for the test, Vesti has already visited Mahindra’s purpose-built facility in the UK for a seat fit, and to begin building up his knowledge and understanding of the car on the team’s simulator.
Mahindra Racing CEO and Team Principal, Frederic Bertrand, stated: “We’re delighted to welcome Frederik to the team for the Berlin Rookie Test. “He’s young, enthusiastic, and very quick – all the right traits for us to give him a chance in the car. His record in the junior categories speaks for itself.
