The gravel is calling, and South African petrolheads have an entire weekend of racing, modified machines and off-road entertainment waiting for them this September. Gravel Kings Festival 2026 returns to the Nuy Valley near Worcester from 18–20 September 2026, bringing three days of gravel drag racing and festival action to the Western Cape.

Inspired by the rugged motorsport spirit of legendary events such as Dakar and Baja, Gravel Kings combines competitive racing with the culture surrounding South Africa’s 4x4s, bakkies, custom builds and overlanding community.
This isn’t simply a case of arriving, watching a few races and heading home either. Gravel Kings is being developed as a full weekend experience where enthusiasts can camp, eat, explore the latest off-road equipment, enjoy live entertainment and spend three days among people who share their passion for machines and adventure.

Gravel Drag Racing Takes Centre Stage
At the heart of Gravel Kings Festival 2026 will be its head-to-head gravel drag racing.
Purpose-built 4x4s, modified bakkies, performance vehicles and custom machines will battle it out on dirt, giving spectators the opportunity to watch competitors put both their vehicles and driving abilities to the test.
Unlike conventional drag racing on prepared asphalt, gravel introduces an entirely different challenge. Traction becomes precious, launches become unpredictable and drivers must manage the constantly changing surface beneath their tyres.
The result should be plenty of dust, noise and sideways action.
Gravel Kings will accommodate several racing classes, allowing different types and specifications of vehicles to compete in appropriate categories. This creates opportunities for everything from serious off-road builds to modified machines designed specifically to attack the gravel.
Night-run demonstrations are also planned, extending the motorsport action beyond the daytime programme.
More Than a Weekend of Racing
While racing might provide the horsepower behind Gravel Kings, the organisers want the festival atmosphere to be just as important.
An expanded Overlanding Hub will showcase equipment, custom builds and off-road innovations for visitors interested in travelling beyond the tar. With overlanding continuing to attract South Africans looking to explore the country’s more remote destinations, the exhibition area should provide plenty for 4×4 owners and adventure travellers to investigate.
The weekend will also include live entertainment, with bands taking to the stage on Saturday night after the racing action begins winding down.
Food vendors, fan zones and a fully stocked bar will operate during the weekend, while camping allows visitors to remain close to the action rather than treating Gravel Kings as a single-day excursion.
For families and groups of motoring enthusiasts, it creates something closer to a petrolhead weekend away than a traditional motorsport meeting.
Drivers Need to Register Before Gravel Kings
Anyone planning to compete needs to pay particular attention to the registration requirements for 2026.
There will be no driver registrations available on the day.
Competitors must complete their registration before arriving at Gravel Kings. Driver numbers are also being deliberately limited to help organisers maintain the racing schedule, improve track time and manage safety throughout the weekend.
Once the available driver positions have been filled, entries will close.
The organisers have also introduced a mandatory medical information section as part of the registration process. Accurate information must be provided so that on-site medical personnel have the necessary details should an incident occur.
Vehicles won’t simply arrive and immediately head onto the gravel either. All competing vehicles must pass scrutineering before being permitted onto the strip.
Drivers will also be required to follow instructions from marshals and event officials throughout the competition and comply with the applicable event rules, liability requirements and code of conduct.
In short: no registration, no race.
