Five-Minute Checks Before Every Drive

Most drivers simply get into their vehicles, start the engine and head off without giving their car a second thought. Spending just five minutes on a few basic checks can improve safety, reduce breakdowns and save money on expensive repairs.

Begin by checking your tyres. Look for obvious damage, cuts or objects lodged in the tread. Confirm that your tyre pressures are correct and that the tread still has sufficient depth for safe driving.

Next, inspect your vehicle’s lights. Working headlights, brake lights and indicators help you see and allow other road users to understand your intentions. Replacing a faulty bulb is quick and inexpensive compared to the risks of driving without proper lighting.

Take a moment to check your engine oil, coolant and windscreen washer fluid. Running low on any of these can lead to unnecessary mechanical problems or reduced visibility during poor weather.

Finally, walk around your vehicle to ensure nothing appears unusual. Look for fluid leaks, loose body panels or anything that may have changed since your last journey.

These simple checks take only a few minutes but can make every trip safer and help your vehicle remain reliable for years to come.
